The PTA Magic of Membership Magic Show will be this coming Friday, October 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. I would love to get some volunteers to take pictures during this event. Any photos you take will be considered for our October monthly group photo contest for a Starbucks gift card. Let me know if you’ll be attending and would be able to help take pictures!

Germain PTA
Are you always taking photos of your child? Do you love going to Starbucks for a cup o’joe? Would you like a picture you took of your child in the yearbook?
If you answered yes to these questions, we want your photos!
We’re having a monthly contest for the best group photo of Germain students!
The winner in September will receive a Starbucks gift card and will have their group photo appear in the 2009-2010 yearbook.
Some Photo Tips:
* Please take high resolution, digital pictures.
* Please do not use your phones to take pictures, use your camera instead.
* Pictures should be taken on campus, not at home.
To enter the contest, just email your digital photos to deekaub@yahoo.com or burn a CD of your photos and turn them into the Yearbook box in the office by Friday, October 2nd along with your name, phone, and email address.
Anyone who already sent in First Day of School photos will be included in the contest for September.

Skateland Event for Germain School, Thursday Sept. 24, 2009 from 4 to 6 PM at Northridge Skateland.
18140 Parthenia Street, Northridge, CA 91325. Parthenia between Lindley and Reseda.
The cost $5.00/person skate included. Come and skate, eat dinner and have fun!!!
All the money collected from the entrance tickets is going to the Germain School PTA. Bring the family, friends, relatives and neighbors!
Skateland will send their promotional team call the “Hummer team” to out school tomorrow Tuesday Sept 22 at 12:43 pm. They will have music, skaters around the car and will pass some flyers.

Back to School Night.An evening for parents to meet teachers, learn about the class and instructional program.
There will be a bake sale prior to each of the grade groups.
PTA Bake Sale:
5:30 pm – 6:00 pm and 7:00 – 7:30 pm
Presentation of the instructional program:
Grades K – 2: 6:00 – 6:45 pm
Grades 3-5: 6:45 – 7:30 pm
What an amazing night we had tonight at the first Association Meeting for the 2009-2010 school year. We had over 150 family members join us for family dinner Italian style.
I would like to “THANK “ the Germain St. PTA Executive Board for all of the hard work, outstanding team efforts and kindness that each of you potrayed during this very large event. Your devotion was beyond anything I could have wished for. You made the evening a success.
In addition, many “Thank Yous” go out to the large number of volunteers that assisted in making the evening effortless. We could not have done this without your support.
The evening began with a “Scavenger Hunt”. The hunt involved all the parents and children of Germain. The object “Get to Know Your School”, and I believe many of you did. You are now familiar with where the “Snack Shack”, “Reunion Gate” and the “Parent Center are located. Congratulations, to everyone who figured out the 10 word sentence.
Spaghetti Dinner was Great! The chefs we brought in from Italy really knew thier way around a kitchen. Even though they only had a three burner stove. Everyone had a wonderful time spinning thier spaghetti on thier fork, and taking time to eat with friends and family.
Our Association Meeting kicked off the start of an amazing year to come. If this is any indication of the Parent Support we are going to experience this year, I am “excited”.
Thank you in advance to everyone who took the time to drop a check in the “Direct Donation” Box. You support will help continue the efforts of the PTA, when it comes to sponsoring family and student enrichment.
I look forward to our success for the new year and I would like to remind you that our “Magic of Membership” is now in full swing. Don’t hesitate to join the PTA and get your childs class to a minimum of 100%. Help your child’s class when an Ice Cream party, sponsored by the PTA.
In closing I would like to give a very special “THANK YOU” to two outstanding Germain Family Members…First to Mrs. Ugarte, who not only allows me to follow-through with all of my crazy ideas, but always supports the efforts of the PTA, second I would like to give a very special “THANK YOU” to Dorothy. If it wasn’t for Dorothy volunteering her time we would not be able to have these great events. Thank You, Dorothy you are amazing.

First, I’d like to thank the dozens of families who have already signed up to help the PTA go paperless, save the school money, stay involved with their children’s education, and–lets face it–join the rest of 21st. Century. As of this writing, nearly 1/5 of the school’s families have already subscribed to receive PTA communications via email.

I thought, since the underlying theme of this web site was connecting with our children through our school, these links might provide an immediate opportunity.
Ever wonder what Germain St. Elementary School looked like back in 1969, when many school parents weren’t even old enough to go there?
How about 1952? (Click on the images for a larger view.)
HistoricArials.com is a web site the whole family can enjoy and cross the digital divide together. (Then, try to explain to the kids how they took these photos without satellites.) Make sure you hit the “Pan Image” button at the top of the picture and tour the rest of the neighborhood at different points in history. You only have to go back to 1980 to see how Porter Ranch got its name, and how you could have safely told your kids to go play on the highway.

Our PTA has had a very successful beginning. I would like to keep up the momentum and take this opportunity to extend a huge and much deserving “THANK YOU.” All parents, guardians, siblings, faculty members and administration members that volunteer to help in supporting the efforts of the PTA and Germain Street School are, in my book, the most unselfish, caring, and amazing people. I am proud to have you as a part of the team.
Our Direct Donation Campaign has begun. On January 26, 2009 the Germain PTA sent out a flyer to all families encouraging everyone to participate in this school wide event. Our goal is to have 100% participation. That means every family must take the initiative and get involved. Your contribution will benefit your child on many different levels, so make the TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION TODAY.
The PTA is happy to talk to you in the evenings and on the weekends. Just email us at germainpta@yahoo.com, and post your comments and when it is a good time to contact you.
