Dear parents:

Many of you are aware that one of our third grade teachers, Mrs. Han, has been on maternity leave. In order to preserve continuity in the classroom, and maximize her students’ learning potential, she invested considerable time and foresight, in collaborating with a highly-qualified long-term substitute. In choosing Mrs. Hobi to temporarily-assume her roll in the classroom, she consciously selected a teacher who has worked full-time at our school (but was displaced due to budget-cuts), one who knows the curriculum, has taught Germain students for many years, and who has a personal investment in our school–and even has a child attending. Most importantly, she has worked this year, in collaboration with Mrs. Han, to assure a seamless transition for the students–one that would not interrupt their learning process.

With just a day’s notice, and roughly six weeks to Mrs. Han’s anticipated return, and just as students begin testing, LAUSD has unilaterally chosen to replace the substitute Mrs. Han chose for her students, with a teacher displaced from another school. With only a few weeks remaining, the district has chosen to override what is obviously in the best interest of the children, with their own bureaucratic interests.

The good news is, Germain families have spoken before, and forced the district to bend to the best interests of our children. We can do it again! But we don’t have much time. Even if your child is not directly affected — YET — please call, and email….

It would not be the first time Germain St. parents have gotten the district’s attention, and cooperation, when we have demanded it. (It would not even be the first time this year.) If we, the concerned parents, families, and friends of Germain St. students show unified support, we have, and will continue to bring the resources our children need back to the campus. LAST PTA Association Meeting: Tuesday June 21 @ 6 pm.We will be installing our new elected eboard members. The meeting will be at 6 pm at El Queso Grande 10152 Balboa Blvd Granada Hillscorner of Devonshire and Balboa.  2 item combo with rice, beans, soft drink or tea including tax and tip is $20.00. If someone would like something else then the price will increase accordingly. Please RSVP with a check (made to Germain PTA) for $20 p/p by June 21 end of school day!. You may attend just the meeting at no cost. Dinner to follow meeting.

PTA Association Meeting: Tuesday May 17 @7 pm. We will be VOTING in the new nominees. Installation meeting and dinner TBA.
We will also have photos from our Valentines Dance for sale $5 each at the meeting.
Support our teachers this Friday. A short day was implemented last ween by LAUSD to allow teachers to rally in downtown after school instead of a walkout in the beginning of school. Support our teachers. Ask them what is going on and how you can help. They are teacher our children. Let’s help them!!!!!

* Still time to volunteer at the festival. Return the yellow tear off on the festival flyer to the office.

* Money raised will go to fun activities like field trips, assemblies and much needed class supplies.

PTA Spring Festival: Room Parents please start on your auction baskets.  This is the biggest fundraiser of the festival and early planning is key. Pick your theme and submit it to the room parent coordinator to ensure there are no duplicates. Baskets will be due soon!!! Have a contents list ready with an estimated value.

PTA Meeting: We will have photos from our Valentines Dance for sale $5 each at our next PTA association meeting on May 17. No association meeting in April due to spring break.

PTA Elections: Thank you to the new parents who nominated themselves to executive board positions for the next school year. The official election will be at the May 17 association meeting with a ceremony at our installation dinner, TBA.

PTA Year Book: Yearbook sale are still on sale for $21. Please submit orders with forms in to the office. Happy Ads are NO LONGER available. Any orders than come in with a happy ad will NOT be in the yearbook. Extra money will be considered a donation.
