THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU parents! The district heard us loud-and-clear. They just called and agreed to reverse their prior decision. Mrs. Hobi will remain in-place with Mrs. Han’s class, until Mrs. Han returns from her leave!

WE NEED ALL PARENTS HELP………
Dear parents:
Many of you are aware that one of our third grade teachers, Mrs. Han, has been on maternity leave. In order to preserve continuity in the classroom, and maximize her students’ learning potential, she invested considerable time and foresight, in collaborating with a highly-qualified long-term substitute. In choosing Mrs. Hobi to temporarily-assume her roll in the classroom, she consciously selected a teacher who has worked full-time at our school (but was displaced due to budget-cuts), one who knows the curriculum, has taught Germain students for many years, and who has a personal investment in our school–and even has a child attending. Most importantly, she has worked this year, in collaboration with Mrs. Han, to assure a seamless transition for the students–one that would not interrupt their learning process.
With just a day’s notice, and roughly six weeks to Mrs. Han’s anticipated return, and just as students begin testing, LAUSD has unilaterally chosen to replace the substitute Mrs. Han chose for her students, with a teacher displaced from another school. With only a few weeks remaining, the district has chosen to override what is obviously in the best interest of the children, with their own bureaucratic interests.
The good news is, Germain families have spoken before, and forced the district to bend to the best interests of our children. We can do it again! But we don’t have much time. Even if your child is not directly affected — YET — please call, and email….

This Friday February 3rd 2012 at 8:15 am in the Parent Center we have our final SPRING FESTIVAL PLANNING MEETING!
This meeting is very important because we need enough parent volunteers to make the Spring Festival a success!
BOX TOPS need to be turned in by Monday February 13th 2012 so that we can collect the money our school has earned.
Don’t forget to participate in ARTWORK FOR EDUCATION. Details were sent out by flyer last Friday.

Some other exciting news…
Germain is considering applying as an AFFILIATED CHARTER SCHOOL. In a nut shell this will mean additional school funds as well as increased influence concerning how and what we spend the additional funds on; more information to follow. Please do your part and research about other schools that have affiliated charter status. Ask other parents with students at affiliated charter schools, because the more we know the better! January 2012 Restaurant Night Details TBA Also, during the month of January Germain is hosting a Book Exchange. Bring your old books and exchange them for some new ones. Books will be collected throughout the month of January in a box marked books in the foyer. On January 30th and 31st from 8am to 11am in room #34 parents can come in to pick out new books for their young readers. February 3, 2012 at 8:15AM in the Parent Center will be our next Spring Festival Planning Meeting. If you are not able to attend but have some ideas or products for games, please email Michelle Oberg at cmoberg_2000@yahoo.com. Also, on February 10, 2012 the PTA is proud to sponsor our annual Valentine’s Day Dance. Keep the evening free for this fun event.
