Attention Parents!!

This Tuesday May 15th at 7:00PM is our last PTA Meeting in Germain Street Auditorium. There will be one more meeting in June at a location TBA. We want to urge you to come this Tuesday as we will be deciding on how to spend PTA funds earned this year for the next school year 2012/2013. Please give us your input so that we can make these important decisions together! Thanks to all of you who attended meetings and participated throughout the year…we couldn’t have done it without YOU!

Tuesday, May 1^st, 2012 is Germain Street’s Dance Celebration and Open House.

Seven different FOOD TRUCKS will be on campus for parents and students to grab a bite to eat before the multicultural dance. A percentage of the sales will be donated to Germain PTA. Don’t forget to bring some cash and enjoy foods from various cultures. The trucks will be at the school from 5:00PM to 7:30PM.

Students need to report to their classrooms by 5:50PM for the MULTICULTURAL DANCE. After the dance, take a look behind you at Room #34 The Parent Center. Free cookie samples will be available for parents and students before they head to open house. The samples are courtesy of Germain PTA and baked from the cookie dough fundraiser which begins today!

This is our last fundraiser of the year for Germain PTA! Please try to sell some of the delicious cookie dough to friends and neighbors and of course yourself! Afterwards from 7:00 to 7:45 PM is OPEN HOUSE.

This entire week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Don’t forget to honor our great teachers throughout the week with flowers, cards, baked goods, etc. On Friday, May 4^th, 2012 is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Lunch. PTA members are welcome to help set up and serve our favorite teachers.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make our Spring Festival a Success! Thankfully, we did make a profit this year. The money will go toward lots of fun activities and important materials for the following school year. Like: Field Trips (buses), technology, special assemblies, family nights and many more…If you would like to help us decide where this money goes you can join our next PTA Meeting on Tuesday, May 15^th, 2012 at 7:00PM at Germain Street Auditorium. We hope to see you there!

Attention Parents, we have some exciting events coming up!!!

First on Saturday, April 28^th, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 12:00PM there will be a FAMILY ARTS SUMMIT at the Cortines School for the Visual and Performing Arts at 450 North Grand Ave, Los Angeles. Spring Festival pre-ordered tickets will be going home today. Check your child’s backpack. If you were not able to pre-order you can still purchase tickets on the day of the event.

All donation baskets and any other donated items must be turned in by Wednesday to the Parent Center room 34.

SPRING FESTIVAL is Finally Here!

April 20, 2012 from 1:45 to 6:00PM

Join us at Germain Street Elementary School for our annual Spring Festival and Silent Auction!!!

Fill out your ticket forms and send them in (extra forms are in the main office). You can also buy tickets on the day of the event. We will be having Inflatable obstacle courses, lots of games and prizes, delicious food, creative crafts, music and even a car show!

On Wednesday…..
A letter went home today about the special guests that are coming to Germain on Wednesday March 21 asking parents to help by bringing in a food dish from their cultural background.
The PTA has been asked to decorate the auditorium on Wednesday for the luncheon in the multi-cultural theme. If you have any items in your home that you think fits the theme, please bring it into the parent center tomorrow. Flags, posters, decorations, anything!!!  If you can help decorate and stay during the luncheon please let us know. Email Ronit  ronit@secondwave.com

PTA Family Fun Night

SCIENCE NIGHT

Where: Germain Auditorium and Hallways

When: Friday March 16, 2012

Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Come and make ice cream, soda or marshmallow molecules. Create some green slime or help solve a mystery by analyzing fingerprints.                                                                                                                    Or better yet launch some angry birds using a real catapult!!! All Germain families are welcome. Parents MUST stay with their children.

MUSIC EDUCATION CRISIS IN LAUSD

At this time, the Los Angeles Unified School District School Board is proposing a 100% cut to elementary arts education.  Please write letters and send emails to the LAUSD Board
Members and the Superintendent. We need your stories!  How has music impacted child’s life?  Your child’s attitude towards school?  Your life? Please send your stories to us at lausdmusiced@gmail.com

Congratulations to Germain Street Elementary for receiving a 5 STAR AWARD!!! Thanks to all the teachers involved and those that work every day to make our school shine!

 PARENTS: Don’t forget to pre-order your ARTWORK FOR EDUCATION cards. Order forms went out last week. They are due Friday, March 2!!!! By pre-ordering your Artwork for Education cards you get to save by paying no sales tax or shipping!! After that, cards can be purchased online, but you will not receive the discount. HURRY!!! They make great gifts. We have sample cards in the parent center!!!! Come and see!!!!

This week also students will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday with lots of fun activities, including a Pajamarama for grades K-2 and a Reader’s Theater for grades 3-5. This will be on Thursday March 1, 2012 from 6 to 7pm in Germain Street’s Library and School Auditorium.

Also, Parents interested in submitting ideas, concerns and suggestions towards Germain Street School going Affiliated Charter, we encourage you to share your important insight. Look out for future opportunities to be part of a Review Team.

Volunteers Needed on Science Night Friday March 16, 2012 at 6pm at Germain Street Elementary School! If available to volunteer to supervise some fun projects for the kids, please look out for a flyer going home this week with details.

Yearbook News: Attention parents…..WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS. Keep taking photos of your student and activities. Send us your photos from the assemblies, field trips, or class parties. Please email high quality photos to ronit@secondwave.com with Germain Photos in the subject.
 
Pre-order with FREE happy ads are complete! Thank you to all those who turned in your orders and happy ads!
Orders will still be accepted. The cost is $23 with no more happy ads accepted. Please turn in orders to your teachers or to the office. Please make checks payable to Germain PTA with your child’s name and room # in the memo line. Order forms are in the office.
 
Upcoming Events:
Science Night – Volunteers are needed for our March 16 Science Night. The more volunteers = the more tables we can have. If you are interested please email us. ronit@secondwave.com with Science Night in the subject.
